Wednesday 16th September Kick-off 7:45pm

Seventh Championship Game of the season

Blackpool are managed by Ian Holloway the West Country mad man of words and riddles.

Injuries to key forward players means that we will most likely play the favoured 4-5-1 formation away from home again, as we did so succesffully at Crystal Palace last time out. Nile Ranger will start as new loan signing Peter Lovenkrands regains his fitness and starts on the bench again, having missed any pre-season training or match practice. Andy Carroll was close to returning however, he failed the final fitness test last Friday and remains a doubt. Shola Ameobi continues with his two months recovery from a stress fracture of the foot.

Finally Newcastle protect a goalmouth that has not seen a goal for the last five matches in the League. Steve Harper and the back four will be well tested by Euell and Ormerod.

Last time out Blackpool lost to Leicester away on Saturday by the odd goal in three.

Captain Alan Smith will be suspended following his sending off on Saturday for two bookable offenses against Cardiff City on Sunday. Nicky Butt will start in his place.

Blackpool 1987 Match ProgrammeThis is our first visit to Bloomfield Road since a 1-0 midweek defeat in the League Cup back in September 1987, when former Mag Tony Cunningham (he who Jack Charlton signhed and picked up at the Central Station witout having seen him and said 'youre black') nipped in to score the only goal of the game.Newcastle went on to win that Second Round tie though, thanks to a resounding 4-1 second leg success on Tyneside.
