Newcastle United v Leicester City
Leicester City Home
St James' Park
Monday 31st August Kick-off 7:45pm
Fifth Championship Game of the season
Leicester are now managed by Nigel Pearson, ex Toon Coach
Newcastle can go to the top of the Championship table with victory over Leicester on Monday. We saw Cardiff, West Brom and Middlesbrough all fail to take maximum points over the weekend.
The Foxes remain unbeaten this season and are now managed by Nigel Pearson, ex Toon coach, hewho spent 16 months at Newcastle and had two spells as their caretaker manager.
Newcastle team news Newcastle midfield duo Joey Barton and Nicky Butt are expected to be passed fit for duty. Barton sustained a foot injury in the latter stages of the 3-0 home win over Reading on 15th August and has subsequently missed the last three games. He was not risked for the midweek Carling Cup victory over Huddersfield but is now in line for a return. Meanwhile, Butt was forced off at half-time against the Terriers with a foot problem but was expected to train over the weekend and come into contention to face the Foxes.
However, we face a striker shortage with Andy Carroll and Xisco ruled out with groin injuries and leading scorer Shola Ameobi doubtful with a foot problem.
Leicester hope to include new loan signing Ryan McGivern in their squad for the trip to St James' Park. The 19-year-old left-back has joined Nigel Pearson's side on loan from Manchester City until January. Striker Steve Howard should recover from a hamstring injury to face the club he supported as a boy. Howard, a United season ticket holder before his football career took off, sustained the problem against Sheffield United 12 days ago but has since resumed training.

Chris Hughton Comments
talking to The Chronicle
“What they will do is analyse their performances. And see what they did and didn’t do well. The nice feeling is that they were all on the winning side by the end. They can only learn from the experience, and it gives them the edge next time they are handed a chance.
The way we are at the moment, you want to win every game. It’s contagious when you win, and more people want to be part of that.
The Huddersfield game was always going to be an important one for us. We want to make progress in the cup there are no doubts about that. The biggest priority is to get a home tie. If anybody walked away and didn’t enjoy large parts of the game, I’d be surprised. It was a terrific night for all Newcastle fans.”

Kevin Nolan 'Test of Character'
he said to nufcTV
"It was a test of character against Huddersfield, no doubt about that, and credit to them. We had to fight back from two down but, with the way we've started this season, we were always confident we'd get back into it. We've build a spirit here and we'll fight to the end of every game and I think we've shown that. We've got a good mix of senior lads and a few good, young players coming though. Danny Simpson has come in and done well, we've got Tamas Kadar, Kazenga LuaLua and Nile Ranger, as well as Ryan Donaldson who was unlucky not to get on against Huddersfield. But we're just delighted to keep that winning run going and hope it continues on Monday.
They've (Leicester) had a fantastic start and Nigel Pearson has done an excellent job. He's been here as a coach and will know what it's all about and will have his lads well prepared. But we're in the middle of a great run ourselves and go into the game full of confidence."
Travel Information - A1 a Mess
For all Leicester City fan’s and Toon fans visiting Newcastle on Monday, here’s some travel information that might help you on your way.
There’s a fair amount of roadworks as you head north, allow a bit of extra time if traveling by car, the A1m northbound has various contraflow systems in place and has been especially bad from Durham onwards, expect some delays.
Plenty of speed restrictions and all average speed cameras, that doesn’t mean you should do half of the route at 80mph and the latter at 40mph.
You can find travel info on the wireless as your on your way up, and as you hit the area, you should pick up Metro Radio, BBC Newcastle and Real FM – all have decent travel info and pre-match news.
Brief info, but hope it helps.
