Caretaker Manager Chris Hughton Pre Match Comments
on Nicky Butts return he said to nufcTV
"We're delighted to have Nicky back in the squad for Palace, We will need players of experience and quality to get out of this division and Nicky has stwo in abundance."
on Danny Simpson debut he said to nufcTV
"It was a solid debut, There were probably times when he could have got forward that little bit more, but it was his first game at St.James' and I'm sure that can be quite daunting for a young player. But he showed good composure at times and I'm sure as he continues to settle in we'll see a lot more from him."
Colin Calderwood Coach Pre Match Comments
on Andy Carroll Fitness he said to nufcTV
"Andy is still 50-50 and we'll have another look at him this morning," But what we won't do is risk players. We'd rather they missed one game than three or four. But Andy still has a chance so we'll see how he gets on today (Friday 21st)."
on Joey Barton's Fitness he said to nufcTV
"I think the doctor's order is for Joey to rest over the weekend, We've got Nicky Butt and Danny Guthrie coming back so, what you lose with one hand, you gain with the other. Joey will do some light training on Friday morning but Saturday will come too soon."
Captain Nicky Butt Pre Match Comments
he said to nufcTV
"The worst thing you can do in this league is to sit back and admire your last victory because you can easily become a cropper. On the other hand, building up momentum and confidence makes you stronger in the next match. That's the secret - stringing together a sequence of good results rather than just getting one here and there.
I started full training at the beginning of the week and if all goes to plan I should be available for selection. The left hand is healing steadily and I'm getting regular treatment from the physios, but any professional wants to be out there on the pitch doing the business, so Derek Wright and his team will understand what I mean when I say I don't want to see much more of them between now and May!"
New Boy Danny Simpson Said
to The Chronicle
“I prefer to be in black and white than red and white. On the way up here a lot of people warned me about what was going on behind the scenes, but I have not noticed it. Someone mentioned Sunderland had 41,000 against Chelsea – and we got 43,000 against Sheffield Wednesday. That just shows the passion the fans have for the club – it speaks volumes. We have more fans than them coming to Championship games. I am just glad to be here. Sunderland is behind me now – that was years ago. I am just looking forward to doing the same at Newcastle and getting into the Premier League.
It is right up there. I have played at Old Trafford, but I think it was louder here. The fans are incredible here. Even though it was only 43,000, it felt like it was full. I enjoyed it, and it was a nice feeling when the whistle went and we had won.
Palace is a chance to win. We are travelling down there after back-to-back wins and looking to make it three. We want to keep the run going. They went to Ipswich and won. They will now be hoping to get something out of us. But we are buzzing and we will not let that happen. I have been around the lads and trained and it is like being at any other club. The lads have put it to one side, and I think it shows by the way we are playing.
We want to do it for ourselves. We cannot affect what happens upstairs. The lads are buzzing and we want to get out of this league. If I do well you never know what could happen in January.”

- Shola Ameobi is set to make his 200th career league appearance.
Palace News
Crystal Palace are still without striker Stern John. The summer signing has been sidelined since suffering an elbow injury against Plymouth on his debut. Crystal Palace have themselves made a decent start and were excellent in their 3-1 win at Ipswich, where summer signing Darren Ambrose scored twice. Ambrose spent just over two years with Newcastle after joining from Ipswich in a £1m deal, aged just 19. He was unable to establish himself and has since suffered relegation with Charlton. Now 25 and having made a great start to his Palace career, Ambrose is a man in form as he prepares to face his former club.
Palace probable line-up; Julian Speroni, Clint Hill, Patrick McCarthy, Jose Fonte, Danny Butterfield, Alassane N'Diaye, Neil Danns, Shaun Derry, Alan Lee, Freddie Sears, Darren Ambrose
